What is InvestED?
InvestED is a student-led financial literacy initiative from the University of Guelph that empowers youth and Indigenous communities with the practical skills, confidence, and long-term mindset needed to manage money, budget effectively, and begin investing for the future. Through interactive workshops, real-world examples, and peer mentorship, InvestED turns financial knowledge into informed decision-making and measurable behavior change, supporting lasting economic resilience and opportunity.
The Problem
Financial literacy remains a major barrier to economic mobility, especially for youth and underserved communities. Many individuals enter adulthood without basic knowledge of budgeting, credit, saving, investing, or debt management.
Traditional financial education is often inaccessible, overly theoretical, or disconnected from real-life decisions, leading to cycles of financial stress and limited long-term planning.

This gap is not due to lack of motivation, but a lack of
accessible, practical, and culturally relevant education that builds both knowledge and confidence. As a result, young people often make financial decisions without understanding long-term consequences.
How InvestED Works
Educate: Participants take part in interactive workshops covering essential topics such as budgeting, saving, credit management, investing, and long-term financial planning. Content is adapted to the audience and delivered using simple language, visuals, and real-life examples.

Engage: Workshops incorporate simulations, case studies, and scenario-based exercises, allowing participants to practice financial decision-making in a low-risk environment. This transforms passive learning into active problem-solving and builds confidence.

Empower: Participants gain access to follow-up tools, resources, and peer mentorship to continue learning and applying skills. Clear pathways for additional sessions and check-ins help participants turn budgeting, saving, and investing skills into real-life action.
