ReduX

What is ReduX?
ReduX is a student-led circular-economy project that diverts restaurant food scraps from landfill and converts them into safe, affordable livestock feed for local farms. By creating a reliable, food-safe pickup network and partnering with pig farmers, ReduX lowers costs for restaurants, reduces methane emissions, and supports sustainable agriculture in our community.
Food Safety & Compliance
ReduX follows strict handling protocols: sealed containers, temperature control, clear “no” lists (e.g., plastics, non-food waste), and farm-specific guidance. We train volunteers and restaurant staff on contamination prevention and maintain logs for every pickup.
Impact
-
Waste diverted: Over 3,000 lbs of food waste.
-
Restaurant partners: 5 local restaurants
-
Farmer partners: 1 Local farmer, lowering their costs

Our Process
-
Partner & Plan: We onboard restaurants with simple guidelines and labelled collection bins.
-
Collection: Famers pick up sealed containers on scheduled routes using food-safe handling.
-
Sorting & Storage: Scraps are inspected, logged, and cooled in approved storage totes.
-
Farms: Food scraps are delivered to partner farms for pig feeding.
-
Trace: We track food volumes, costs saved, and emissions reductions.

Mission
To make food-waste diversion the simplest, most cost-effective choice for local restaurants, while strengthening farm economics and cutting emissions.

Vision
A province wide circular system where every kitchen has a ReduX bin, every farm can access low-cost feed inputs, and organic waste no longer goes to landfill.

Solution
ReduX builds a two-sided, local marketplace: we reduce disposal costs for restaurants and improve feed affordability for farmers, backed by reliable pickups, standardized containers, and data-driven impact reporting.
